And How to Get Viral with the Truth

In today’s digital age, it’s alarming how quickly fake news can spread and how many people can fall for it.

I recently read a shocking BBC investigation that shed light on this issue. It detailed how a network of Russia-based websites, using AI, spreads fake stories, especially targeting American voters ahead of elections.

One eye-opening example was a fake story about Olena Zelenska, the First Lady of Ukraine, allegedly buying a rare Bugatti with US military aid money. This story, although swiftly debunked, had already gone viral, reaching millions of people.

Influencers picked it up and shared it widely before the truth had a chance to come out.

Here's why I think X's algorithms play a huge role in spreading these fake rumors and making people believe them:

1. Engagement Over Accuracy:

Algorithms prioritize content that generates high engagement. Controversial or sensational stories, even if false, get more likes, shares, and comments, pushing them to the top of our feeds.
