How To Overcome The Post-Move Depression

Six months ago, we welcomed a beautiful baby into our family. Three months ago, we decided to move to a new place to have an extra room and be closer to school. But little did we know that our move would lead to something unexpected—post-move depression.

Moving can be incredibly stressful, from the preparations to the actual moving day. But even after the logistics were done, a sense of unease lingered. We wondered if it was just fatigue and stress wearing off, or if it was a sign of something more serious. Could we recognize and treat post-move depression?

Everyone reacts differently to emotional situations. While some people move due to happy events like starting a new life together or buying a dream home, others might move due to less joyful reasons like separation, job loss, or financial difficulties. We didn’t realize how much anxiety it will cause. Leaving our beloved home filled with memories and having to adapt to a new, unfamiliar environment was destabilizing. Post-move depression can strike at any age, and it hit us hard.

The symptoms of post-move depression are recognizable because they persist over time, beyond a few weeks of adaptation. We experienced extreme fatigue and a need to sleep much more than usual. Conversely, some nights were filled with insomnia, with difficulties falling asleep or frequent…
