Dad Squad: Tuning Out the Negativity and Gearing Up for Diaper Duty

My son’s arrival was like a freight train barreling down the tracks – exciting, sure, but also kinda terrifying. Especially when my friends started their chorus of doom and gloom. "Sleepless nights, man," Mark would groan, shaking his head like a sad puppy. "Diaper duty, nonstop," chimed in Sarah, her voice dripping with mock sympathy. "Kiss your free time goodbye," they’d all croon, their negativity a catchy (but unwelcome) tune.

At first, it worked. Their doubts, like a swarm of pessimistic mosquitoes, buzzed around my confidence. Was I ready? Could I handle the 24/7 spit-up and lullaby marathons? Would my once-sculpted physique morph into a "Dad Bod" overnight?

But then, I said "screw it" to the negativity. I dove into books about fatherhood, not just the how-to manuals, but the stories – the laughter, the messy love, the moments that made sleepless nights a distant memory. I talked to other dads, their faces maps of experience, their eyes twinkling with the wisdom of countless diaper changes and bedtime snuggles.

Their stories were symphonies, not dirges. They spoke of the fierce love that roared within them, the heart-melting moments that made the challenges fade away. They described the transformation, not into shadows of their former selves, but into richer, fuller…
